John Pollock, owner of Wood Cubed, is the sole creator of his unique handcrafted free form sculpted wooden puzzle boxes. He specializes and is best known for his lock (puzzle) boxes which feature an assortment of trays, drawers, false bottoms and hidden compartments. He begins with a block of wood, usually choosing to laminate two or more types of wood together.
The block is then free-form sculpted into the shape of the box on a band saw. The shapes,compartments and drawers are generally developed without a lot of planning. He works alone without helpers or apprentices. Each piece is handsigned on the bottom, along with a description of each wood used and the origin.
